Capitol Hill's Tortilla Coast

Just behind the House office buildings and near RNC headquarters lies one of my favorite places to eat on Capitol Hill, the delicious Tortilla Coast. I try and grab a bite there often as it's one of the only places that serves latin food that is a) consistent, b) delicious and c) has good service.

One of the things I love about the place is that they always start you off with their homemade tortilla chips and salsa, both of which are fantastic. I could seriously eat these chips for a meal and be pretty content. They are thinner than most tortilla chips which makes them crispier, and you can tell they always just came out of the fryer but somehow they don't really ever taste greasy. Its a winning combo.

I ordered one of my favorite dishes there, the Arturo's Special Enchiladas - which is basically chicken and rice between two tortillas with enchilada sauce and cheese and with a relish on top made from orange, pineapple, red onion, red bell pepper, and cilantro.

It comes with black beans and rice too, but the relish is what makes this dish. It turns an otherwise regular old enchilada into something unique and awesome. The inside is perfectly moist and delicious.

One other thing I'd like to mention again, the service here is usually pretty good - attentive and whatnot for refills, more salsa, etc. - but this most recent time it was excellent. Our server was named Aaron and he really made the meal perfect. He was pleasant and fast, kept the drink refills coming and we didn't have to wait long for anything we needed even though it was the middle of the lunch rush. So, thanks Aaron for a job well done.

If you're ever in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, be it for work or just visiting, you could do far worse as a lunch spot than Tortilla Coast. I highly recommend it!
